Now we are heading for Deqing International Convention Centre. Please walk out of the Tourist Centre with me and come to the Fengxi Lake. What is sitting in the center of the lake is our Deqing International Convention Centre. It is the permanent venue of UNWGIC and also one of the landmark buildings in Deqing. Approved by the State Council, organized by the United Nation, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Zhejiang Provincial people’s Government, UNWGIC is a major international multilateral activity featuring large scale, high level and rich content. In November 2018, the first session of UNWGIC took place in Deqing International Convention Centre, where the representatives of 108 countries left their footprints.
Inspired by the image of “Feng scraping the sky and flying wilfully” (Feng is a Chinese mystical bird of fortune), the permanent venue highlights the lithe and graceful Feng against the filmy flowing clouds. Nestling in the east and west respectively, the two silvery semicircles form into an oval, which is covered with a 3D metal roof – a symbol of the soaring Feng. As a perfect match with the surrounding lake water, the entire building is like a cloud floating over the lake.
The Centre enjoys a vast land of 48,500 square meters, equipped with conference centre, exhibition centre and outdoor rooftop garden. Spacious room and professional venue facilities are in full performance for various conferences, exhibitions, fairs, festivals and performing arts events. It appeals to all kinds of large-scale international and domestic conventions and exhibitions in Yangtze River Delta region and even across the nation, with the new operating model “Convention and Exhibition + Tourism”. Since opening, it has undertaken over 200 domestic and foreign events and received more than 20,000 visitors, always prepared to unfold the new chapter of Deqing’s economic development.
